Duke Donut goes head to head(s) with A. Peas in their first encounter overflowing with curiosity and humor.
Here are some early character explorations playing with silly, serious, and surprised faces and expressions.
I wanted to show Duke Donut in different poses to help emphasize his dismissiveness and initial sense of superiority.
Which to choose?
Creating several different iterations of the same scene and interaction is imperative for not only fully exploring how the action can play out but also to get a sense of your characters’ personality and how you want the scene to be conveyed.
Here, we see Duke Donut entering this new world from the veggies’ perspectives.
The second sketch opens with Duke Donut first entering the portal and him seeing the foreign landscape laid out before him.
This instance shows the first initial close-up reaction between Duke Donut and veggies, specifically A. Peas.
Ultimately, the third sketch was chosen for this particular scene because it had the most intensity and tension between the two main characters. Here, I refined the sketch and made a few changes.

This is the chosen color scheme used for the final illustration. It shows lush greens accentuating the vegetation and the ultra-vibrant neon of Donut Duke.
