Coraline discovered the door a little after they moved into the house…
When Coraline steps through a door to find a house strangely similar to her own (only better), things seem marvelous.
But there’s a mother mother there, and another father, and they want her to stay and be their little girl. They want to change her and never let go.
Coraline will have to fight with all her wits and courage if she is to save herself and return to her ordinary life.
I went through many different arrangements and iterations to emphasize not only Coraline but also the “Other Mother.” I wanted them to both have the stage and share the cover to depict the “Other World” where everything may seem better but is quite sinister.
I knew I wanted a limited color palette and the flames to be purple but emanate a green glow just like the seeing stone in the story. It is essentially Coraline’s life line and beacon while stumbling through the darkness.
